“ Scripts for Children”
by Sherry L. Kirton

Q   “Hi Sherry,

I am a 4th grade teacher in [info. edited] Ohio. I LOVE the LORD!! My fourth grade class has the responsibility of presenting our school, grades K-6, chapel message next week (1-16). I ran across your human video scripts and am very curious if they are something my students could do. Our theme this month is "All are Welcome in this Place". I was looking for themes around helping others, being servents of God, putting others first etc. I really have a lot of flexiblity with our message.

Can your work help me out? I’m really looking forward to seeing one of your scripts and getting your advice.

Thanks,
God’s peace, ”

Hello Kay,
My scripts are written with junior high to adults in mind with an occasional part for a child under 12. They are free and you can download the scripts book at the site:

http://www.kirtondrawnback.org/scripts.html.

My suggestion is that you look over a script for ideas and maybe let your kids act out three or more ways of serving while a song plays, but do not try to do a full human video because they can take quite a while to learn.

  1. Pray with them, first and let them open up to God about what they would like to do asking Him to guide them.
  2. Have your kids brainstorm as many ways of serving as they can.
  3. Have them pantomime the ideas out in front of each other taking their TIME and checking to see if someone could tell what it is they are doing.
  4. Pick the easiest ones to understand.
  5. Pick a song (the shorter the better for your age-group).
  6. Try out an order of the ideas and make one kid in each group the leader.
The leader is the one who pays attention to when the group entres and exits.
  7. If you have kids left over (more kids than time or ideas) have them be a "chorus" who sing along.
  8. Thank God as a group at every rehearsal.
This should get you where you want to go.

One more thing:

Try the Free Artistic Outreach Weekend Workshop [AOWW]
if you have any team issues already plaguing your ministry or your team is yet to be seen this workshop is for you. Just choose “drama” as the practical project and let us know about your needs so we can be of service to you and you can be of service to those who have yet to hear the Gospel in your local area.

May this be a blessing to you and those you serve,

IJN~
